Introducing Junk Drawer
A place to stash any off-the-wall posts that don't fit in my other Newsletters.
For a while now, I’ve been staring at the empty sixth slot on my Newsletters page wondering what to fill it with. In the past months, some ideas flitted past my brain, but none of them really grabbed me.
This weekend, I was thinking of writing a post about some work I’ve been doing in response to
’s post about Emergent Structural Complexity (ESC) and realized I need a place to stash any “one-off” type posts I might write about topics well outside what’s covered by my other Newsletters. That’s when I decided to create a Newsletter just for such oddball posts. But what to call it? It took an hour or so of pondering, but when my mind presented me with “Junk Drawer”, I smiled. Perfect. Yeah, that’s the one.
So, now there are six:
Logos con Carne — for general stuff.
My Best Guess — for opinions and speculation.
Biblio Victuals — about books (and movies) and storytelling.
Math Musings — about math.
Quantum Curious — about the weird quantum world.
Junk Drawer — one-off posts of interest to few (or none).
An even half-dozen — a six pack. Now that empty slot no longer vaguely nags at me. (Not that I crave even numbers — in fact, I prefer the odd ones — but that empty space in the lower-right bugged me.)
Remember that you can visit your account page to turn any of the above on or off. You have that option on any blog you subscribe to. There’s an account page for each. Just add /account to the end of the blog’s URL.
For example, in this case:
https://logosconcarne.substack.com/account
The Junk Drawer is empty right now (except for this post), but I expect to start putting stuff in it soon. At the moment, though, I’m busy with some home projects, so won’t be spending that much time on Substack.
That’s all for now.
Until next time…
It's a lovely idea. I think it will definitely come through. Sometimes it’s hard managing multiple sections of your account but if you have time and you have the right resources to put in it, it will come true Wyrd.
I saw your comment on Hans Morgenstern post. I love that I decided to come to your page and I found this one extremely interesting.
I'm Ral, lovely meeting you sir. I’m glad you’re happy and doing amazing, beautifully retired 🌝
I've checked and I'm subscribed :)
I look forward to hearing what you've found about ESC. Is it looking promising or have you found some flaws 😅? BTW, I think I forgot to say in the post, but you should be able to see the code I used in github, linked from the apps in the top right of the page.
